FOUND:RE Phoenix

Jackson Pollock-Inspired Art Created by Valley Youth on Display Throughout February

FOUND:RE Phoenix, located at 1100 North Central Avenue, announces its February in the Studio art exhibit, The Jackson Pollock Show, in collaboration with the Phoenix Elementary School District. The exhibit kicks off with a special reception from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on February 2, in conjunction with the Phoenix First Friday Art Walk, and will remain through February 25.

The exhibit will represent art created by students throughout the K-8 district, with many of the pieces from students in the 4th through 8th grades. According to John Avedisian, the co-curator for the students’ Jackson Pollock Show at FOUND:RE and the director of the Arts Program at the Phoenix Elementary School District, “We’ve been celebrating the life and art of Jackson Pollock for more than 15 years, as he is one of the most notable alumni of our district. We are very lucky to have an administration that really supports these programs — from art, music, band, dance, and theatre — and takes the continued education of the arts very seriously.” The district art program teaches students the history and life of Pollock, alumni of Monroe School, which now houses the popular Children’s Museum of Phoenix, making this upcoming exhibit significant to the Phoenix area.

Avedisian worked closely with Michael Oleskow, the FOUND:RE’s cultural curator, to develop the exhibit, which will include a special presentation about Jackson Pollock by keynote speaker Helen Harrison, director of the Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center, who will be flying in from New York for the exhibit’s launch and reception. “I had visited the FOUND:RE gallery before and thought it would be a great place to have a student exhibit,” says Avedisian. “When I approached Michael about it he was in favor, and we are thrilled and honored that Helen will be joining us to speak.”

The complimentary reception takes place on February 2 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and by checking availability at the front desk on weekends.
